About Out of the Inkwell: The Tantalizing Fly (1919)

Out of the Inkwell was Max and Dave Fleischer's silent series in which Koko the Clown climbs out of an ink bottle and into the real world of the animator's studio. The shorts mixed live action with animation and used the Fleischers' rotoscope, the device Max Fleischer patented for tracing filmed movement, to give Koko his fluid, lifelike motion.
