Santa Claus

About Santa Claus (1898)

Santa Claus is an 1898 British silent trick film by George Albert Smith, one of the Brighton pioneers of early cinema. As two children sleep, Santa is shown in a circular vignette on the rooftop, climbing down the chimney, before he steps into the bedroom to fill their stockings and vanishes. The BFI's Michael Brooke called it cinema's earliest known example of parallel action, and it is one of the oldest surviving films of Santa Claus. It airs on Starlite TV's Silent Pictures channel (CH 12).
