About Rocket Age

Rocket Age celebrates science fiction from its very beginnings. The oldest title on the channel is Georges Méliès's A Trip to the Moon from 1902, with its rocket lodged in the eye of the Man in the Moon; from there the schedule travels through silent fantasies like The Lost World (1925), early-sound curiosities and the drive-in monsters, flying saucers and mad scientists of the 1950s and early 1960s.

Rocket Age also airs modern open-source short films, such as the Blender Foundation's Sintel and Tears of Steel, released under Creative Commons licences that allow anyone to share them, plus real NASA films about the Mercury programme. The mix is deliberate: old and new imagined futures, side by side with the actual space age.

Every title is public domain in the U.S., a U.S. government work, or shown under a licence that permits it, and the details are on each title's page. Credits required by Creative Commons licences are shown on the page and in the player.
